In Tampa’s heat and humidity, the type of unit you rent matters as much as how it’s packed. We move things into and out of units all over Tampa Bay, and the most expensive mistake we see is good furniture sitting in the wrong kind of unit for a summer.
Climate-controlled or drive-up? Sort it by what you’re storing
“Indoor” and “climate-controlled” aren’t the same thing. An indoor unit down a hallway can be just as hot and humid as a drive-up unit. Ask the facility directly whether the unit is air-conditioned. Then split your things like this:

- Wood furniture, especially antiques and veneers
- Mattresses and upholstered sofas and chairs
- Leather furniture
- Electronics, TVs and computers
- Photos, documents, books and artwork
- Instruments, including pianos and guitars
- Clothing and linens you’re storing for months
Usually fine in a drive-up unit
- Patio furniture and grills (with no propane tank)
- Lawn and garden tools
- Bikes, kayaks and sports gear
- Plastic bins of seasonal décor
- Metal shelving and tool chests
- Things you’d keep in a garage anyway
Ground-floor units and hurricane season
Drive-up units are at ground level, and some facilities sit in low-lying parts of Tampa that take on water in heavy storms. If you’re storing through June to November, ask the facility whether units there have flooded before, and keep anything valuable off the floor on pallets or shelving.
Check what your homeowner’s or renter’s policy covers for items in storage. Many facilities also require their own tenant protection plan, so compare the two before you sign.

Can you move things straight from my house into a unit?
Yes. We load at your place, unload into the unit, and pack it so it’s stable and you can still reach the boxes you’ll need. Bring the gate code and the key or combination.
Do you work with any storage facility?
Yes. Any facility in the Tampa Bay area, as long as we can get the truck in during their gate hours.
Can you empty a unit and deliver to my new home?
Yes. Tell us the unit size and how full it is, and whether it’s a drive-up or an interior unit with carts and an elevator.
What can’t go into storage?
Same as a moving truck: no propane, gasoline, paint thinner, or perishable food. Food in a unit draws roaches and rodents fast in Florida.
